Today Cruze was tested for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This test is a sweat test. Poor little guy.
They hooked this machinge up to one arm at a time to ignite his sweat glands. It is pretty bothersome. After each arm is done they put a sweat collector and wrap it in saran wrap. Then, they place heat pads on his arms wrapped in gauze. Then, they wrap him in large hospital blankets and place a space heater on him for 30 minutes.
This is at the beginning of the heat wrap. He was screaming most of the time. My job was to hold him tight and completley covered and in front of the heater.
This was towards the end. He would get so exhausted from screaming and just go limp. Then start screaming again.
This was after we were able to unwrap him. He was drenched. Miserable. And a little upset with me.
We will recieve the results tomorrow if there was enough sweat gatheres. Otherwise we schedule to do it again. The problem is that the minimum level of fluid intake required to take this test is impossible for Cruze to reach. but we tried anyway. Required is 27 ounces. On a good day for Cruze is 18 ounces, if I withhold baby foods. So we got 19 and that was pushing it. So I am sure it will come back negative. So if you hear nothing, it was a negative result. Positive result I will send an email/text out.
